Valley of the Gourds, Kraus's first release on mfmp, sits as comfortably in the 'analog-synthesis box' as a jiving, acid-washed hippy at a conference of maverick neurosurgeons, or a jousting knight at a pro wrestling match.

This is to say that, while Valley of the Gourds might at first seeming plausibly situated, one quickly begins to feel that something is amiss, off-kilter in attitude or intent, additional or adjacent to 'the norm'. It is this 'almost-characterisable' quality which confirms a new release by celebrated sonic traveler, Kraus, whose singular and eclectic work encompasses a range of influences, from Golden Age electronics and psychedelic rock, to Eastern folk and pre-modern Western musics.

KRAUS is a psychedelic musician based in Auckland, New Zealand. Since 2002 he has released 16 albums, and presented his endlessly evolving live performances throughout New Zealand, Australia and Europe.
